Lewes Saturday Folk Club Workshop No 286 18th/19th. CENTURY DANCE MUSIC FROM GERMANY WORKSHOP for any instrument Folk enthusiasts in Germany & beyond are leading a revival of interest through manuscripts & collections of dance music, mainly from the 18th. & 19th. century. The best-known is probably the Dahlhoff family collection from Westfalia. The workshop will be led by Keith Macdonald (piano accordion) & Ange Hauck (German & French bagpipes, hurdy gurdy, harp). The workshop will offer a variety of tunes from this era: Polkas, Seskens. Polonais, Zwiefache & the ubiquitous 'Tantz', also touching on similarities to contemporary English tunes. It is for instruments able to play in G, D &C. Written music will be available with some teaching by ear. Keith Macdonald & Ange Hauck are well known as a duo in the German folk scene. They play mainly for dancing & are experienced workshop leaders. Keith's musical roots are playing in Sussex for Chanctonbury Ring Morris Men & English & French dance music (The Drift). He has lived in Germany since 2008. Ange specialises in the traditional music of Franconia. As well as playing in a duo with Keith, she plays in the group Irronymous Bock.
