Emily & Hazel Askew (askewsisters.co.uk) are two of the foremost performers & interpreters of English folk music. They both sing. Between them they play fiddle, melodeon, concertina & cello.
Their live performances brim with the depth and connection not only of two sisters, but also of two musicians who have been immersed in folk music all their lives. Together, they rework and reinterpret songs and balladry, creating breath-taking arrangements, which allow words that are hundreds of years old to resonate profoundly with contemporary audiences. They also add freshness, playfulness & vigour to traditional dance music.
Hazel & Emily will give us two forty-five minutes sets and the rest of the evening is filled by members of the audience performing a song or tune if they wish.
Everyone is welcome, especially if you'd like to sing or play. We mostly sing and play traditional music from the British Isles, but we enjoy other styles as well. We always start off with some English dance tunes for anyone with an instrument to join in.
We have a loyalty card. Six visits earn you £5 off an evening when admission is £5 or more. It's £10 tonight.
