The Mikeleiz-Zucchi Duo presents a programming spanning 400 years of music, from the dance works of 16th century composer Michael Praetorius to brand new works from award-winning composers Roxanna Albayati and Robin Haigh. Along the way, we'll hear music from famous crossover composers including George Gershwin, Astor Piazzolla, and Chick Corea. This exciting and varied programme will showcase familiar music like you've never heard it before, and introduce you to brand new sound worlds.
Set in the picturesque Lewes, Cliffe Hall's beautiful interior is the perfect setting for our Musical Musings.
ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
Winners of the Royal Overseas League Annual Music Competition's Mixed Ensemble Prize in 2021, the Mikeleiz-Zucchi Duo's repertoire spans everything from reimagined traditional works to modern repertoire and improvisation, all vividly rendered by the unique combination of saxophone and accordion. Made up of Canadian saxophonist David Zucchi and Spanish accordionist Iñigo Mikeleiz-Berrade, the duo was formed in the spirit of mutual curiosity and open-mindedness.
After their debut concert at the Vale de Cambra Classical Music Festival (Portugal) in 2019, the duo has performed across the UK and Europe, including appearances at Wigmore Hall, Edinburgh Fringe, the Rosengart Museum (Lucerne), St. George's Bristol, and the Daylight Music series (Union Chapel, London). A project to commission new works for the duo has been supported by the Nicholas Boas Charitable Trust and the Marchus Trust.
Individually, Iñigo and David have distinguished themselves as award-winning interpreters of classical, improvised, contemporary, and experimental music, and have performed at some of the UK's most prestigious venues. They are graduates of the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music.
