Riley Baugus represents the very best of old-time US 5-string banjo & song. His powerful singing voice & brilliant playing place him squarely at the head of the next generation of US roots music. Born in the Southern Appalachians, he has toured with dancer Ira Bernstein, singer Tim Eriksen & fiddle & banjo player Dirk Powell. He's recorded with Robert Plant, Alison Krauss & Willie Nelson.

The workshop will cover an attractive selection of tunes which Riley learned from old folks in the mountains, with lots of historical & musical information. He passes the music on as he learned it, without dots or tablature, but he teaches in a modern way, playing the tune several times, breaking down & working through each phrase slowly, focusing on techniques to improve one's playing. This method includes a bit of listen & repeat, then play together, then move to the next phrase until we have the entire tune. No-one should leave disappointed!
