Wooden sculpture and drawing on wood

About

Woodcraft Studios at Stanmer Organics are happy to present a collaboration between three artists of Wood Creations.

Rafael Berrio is a Colombian sculptor whose work is concerned with ecology and the environment.

He carves iconic objects from timber and driftwood reclaimed from the sea and cajoles and manipulates the material to reveal the inner forms that appear within the wood. 'Touchwood & Stars', his new body of work, offers a visual tribute to ancient knowledge drawn from his Afro-Indigenous heritage, as well as the power, mystery and complex forms of our fragile natural world that we all have a duty to protect.

Inspired by the surrounding natural world of wildlife and fauna, a walk through Chris Hore's garden of woodcraft is an exciting and delightful experience. He produces medium to large scale pieces, particularly taking advantage of the natural organic shapes in the wood he uses. Also included in this exhibition is his special collection of musical instruments made with natural materials.

'Reading into the Wood ' is an exhibition of wood stories that are drawn with fire on pieces of wood burr. Artist Yoly Zarfati (Yolywood) intuitively draws what she sees on wood, following the lines and patterns of the wood grain. thus revealing fascinating and magical imagery of both human and nature’s stories that are connected and intertwined.
