Lewes Saturday Folk Club Workshop No 305 - CORACLE https://coracleband.co.uk/ EARLY MUSIC FOR FOLK MUSICIANS WORKSHOP for any instrument
Places £45 (2 under-25-year-olds £22). Email valmaigoodyear@aol.com to reserve places, bring cash on the day
Paul Hutchinson (Belshazzar's Feast) Karen Wimhurst (Welsh National Opera, Grimethorpe Colliery Band, jazz) and Anna Tam (Mediaeval Baebes) blend traditional music and song in enthralling alchemy with elements from Early Music, classical and jazz. They sing and play accordion, clarinet, nyckelharpa, hurdy gurdy, cello and viola da gamba.
The workshop will explore places where Early Music & traditional music intertwine. The1st Edition of Playford's Dancing Master published in 1651 was one of the first manuscripts to draw on tunes from the oral folk tradition and capture them in print. We will take some of these tunes and together explore how we can bring them alive today in a folk ensemble setting. Some music will be sent out in advance.
