Lewes Town Council turned 50 this year! To celebrate, we're exploring the amazing place that we represent with an exhibition about the town's evolution in the past half century. Fifty Years Of Change will take place at Lewes Town Hall on Saturday December 7 and Sunday December 8 between 11am and 4pm. This FREE two-day event celebrates half a century of transformation in the town, reflecting on key themes and events and the dynamic cultural, social, and environmental changes that have shaped Lewes, from the town's history of protest, to the changing face of the High Street, to the devastating flood of 2000. The exhibition takes place in the Town Hall’s Corn Exchange, with a programme of talks and film screenings in the Lecture Room.
The exhibition will feature archival photographs, documents and objects lent by the community, showcasing how Lewes looked in decades past and how it has adapted to meet the challenges and opportunities of the modern era.
