Heritage Open Days Weekend celebrates England’s architecture and culture by offering free access to properties across Lewes, Seaford and Newhaven, that are usually closed to the public, or charge for admission.
Enjoy free access to 18 historic Lewes buildings plus seven guided walks, based on this year's national theme - 'Working life through the ages'. Visitors can tour properties in Lewes such as Harvey's Brewery, the Harpsichord Workshop, and Edward Reeves' Victorian photographic studio and its extensive archives. Guided walks include the Malling Deanery Arboretum, Ironworks of Lewes and the Battle of Lewes.
Seaford visits include the Coastguard Cottage and Cablehouse with their famous view of the Seven Sisters at Cuckmere Haven and Newhaven offers free visits to Newhaven Fort and the Newhaven Museum.
Heritage Open Days is England's largest community led festival of history and culture, involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations. Every year in September it brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history. Stories are told, traditions explored, and histories brought to life. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all FREE.
