Timeless combination of fiddle and melodeon with a few traditional songs for good measure.

James is a fine fiddler, largely self-taught, blending English fiddle styles with his own to produce an exciting, distinctive sound with a great range of moods. He's worked with Jim Moray, Mawkin:Causley, Mawkin and Topette. Saul is an outstanding melodeon player. He's played in The Kings of Calicutt (with Eliza Carthy and Nancy Kerr) Waterson:Carthy, Whapweasel, the Jim Moray Band and Faustus. He has played The Songman in the West End show Warhorse.

James and Saul will give us two 45-minute spots and the rest of the evening is filled by members of the audience performing a song or tune if they wish. During the day, James leads an all-day fiddle workshop (at the Lewes Arms) and Saul leads an all-day melodeon workshop (at the Elephant & Castle).

Everyone is welcome, especially if you'd like to sing or play. We mostly sing and play traditional music from the British Isles, but we enjoy other styles as well. We always start off with some English dance tunes for anyone with an instrument to join in.
