John Kirkpatrick (www.johnkirkpatrick.co.uk) is a superb singer, great writer of songs and tunes, fine dancer and the best English squeezer bar none.  He is one of the great solo acts on the folk scene and has played with the Albions, Steeleye Span, Brass Monkey, Band of Hope and many more.  He has been Morris Dancing, playing for it, and thinking about it for over 60 years. The man must know something!

The workshop will cover playing for all kinds of Morris Dancing, looking at different styles, and above all how to subdue your ego to be at the service of the dance.  Some music will be sent out in advance.

Provisional Timetable 10.45 Registration & coffee; please order lunch at the bar (refreshments not included). 11.00 An initial look at playing for dancing as opposed to playing music. Leave egos at the door! 12:30 Lunch 13.30 The nitty gritty of dance moves & how their pulse & rhythm affects the music. 15.00 Tea/coffee break 15.15 How the same tune can be adjusted to suit radically different dancing styles. General summing up. 16.45 Finish N.B. Booking is recommended as numbers are limited. Some music will be sent in advance, and maps and accommodation lists on request.
