Immerse yourself in the rich and diverse world of basketry at this year's festival, where every aspect of the craft is celebrated. Enjoy live demonstrations of chair caning, rush mat plaiting, trug-making, giant basket weaving, and even the art of making string from nettles, along with much more.
This year, we're excited to feature a panel of experts ready to discuss the fascinating history of basketry, complete with examples from around the globe. You'll also have plenty of chances to get hands-on, with "have-a-go" activities and eight bookable workshops—each lasting 45 minutes and available for just £10.
As you explore the stalls, you'll find that many basketmakers offer courses. Take the opportunity to chat with the tutors and sign up for future sessions.
To keep you energized, we'll have teas, coffees, and a selection of delicious cakes and biscuits from a local baker, along with a variety of street food options to sustain you throughout the day. And if you're looking for something stronger, the bar opens at 3 PM.
The day culminates in a lively Ceilidh at 6 PM, featuring 9 Dead Mice and their caller—don't miss out on the fun!
