About

Visitors are invited to step into the world of knights and chivalry this May Half Term at Lewes Castle. Following the excitement of the Battle of Lewes reenactment weekend, the castle presents a programme of family-friendly activities inspired by the age of knights.

Young visitors can take on the Knight's Shield Trail, exploring the castle grounds in search of hidden shields linked to the legendary battle.

Throughout the week, children can also train to become a knight by completing a series of fun challenges around the castle. They can discover their knightly name, try their hand at sword skills, dress the part, and learn what it takes to ride into battle. Those who complete the activities can earn their place among the castle's newest knights.

Storytelling sessions with Trevor will bring myths, legends and traditional tales to life in the atmospheric surroundings of the castle on 25 May, with an additional session at Anne of Cleves House on 27 May.

On 31 May, the Sussex Medieval Society will be on site, offering a glimpse into medieval life with living history displays and demonstrations.

All activities are included with general admission, making it an ideal family day out during half term.

Visitors who choose to Gift Aid their tickets can revisit the site free of charge for a year.

Entry is free for members of The Sussex Archaeological Society.
