About

Written songs about Sussex by local songwriters old and new: Bob Lewis, Bing Lyle, Milly Murphy, Ann Hilton, Jim Glover, Chris Skinner, Don & Di Morgan, Carole Taylor, Valmai Goodyear will sing. There will also be songs by Kipling, Belloc, and Maria Cunningham.

Home-made Plum Heavies (Sussex specialities) will be served.

Bring Sussex songs and tunes you have written or found. To reserve a song (in case someone else has it on their list) message or email Valmai on valmaigoodyear@aol.com.

Everyone is welcome, especially if you'd like to sing or play. We mostly sing and play traditional music from the British Isles, but we enjoy other styles as well. We always start off with some English dance tunes for anyone with an instrument to join in.

We have a loyalty card. Six visits earn you £5 off an evening when admission is £5 or more. It's £8 cash tonight. Surplus takings after expenses will be donated to the charity Sussex Traditions.

During the day Roger Watson leads an all-day workshop on New Songs For Old, an examination of how different versions of traditional songs may have come about and how songwriters with a knowledge of old songs can make their own personal and contemporary versions, and create new songs using elements of traditional ones. Places are £45 (2 under-25s £22). Email valmaigoodyear@aol.com to reserve places and bring cash on the day.

The club meets in an upstairs room. There are handrails on each side of the stairs but no stairlift. Assistance dogs only, please.
