The Sussex Women Supper Club. Chapter five: Isobel Smith

About

Isobel Smith lives and works in Newhaven, East Sussex, UK.

She completed her MA in Sculpture/Performance at Royal College of Art in 2017 and is a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors. Isobel has performed at Tate Modern and her work is in the Saatchi Collection.

'Performance is at the root of my practice. I explore my surroundings viscerally, often by means of ridiculous or desperate actions designed to erase my rational head and champion intuition instead. By making un-sense of familiar everyday objects and situations, I attempt to make the subconscious visible, get closer, and look out of its strange eyes.

Modern human conventions would have us walking down the middle of our lives, not stopping to sniff or lick it, or roll and rub up against it. Age and gender further close these norms and I'm passionate about using performance and sculpture to kick them up and shake off something of my tamed and civilised self.'

Join us for a Supper Club like no other. An invitation to explore Isobel's career to date and - who knows - you might leave inspired to stop, sniff, lick, roll and rub up against your own life. It promises to be a brilliant evening.

Please remember that the Sussex Women Supper Club is generally about women but not exclusively for them. Everyone is welcome to join us, no matter how you choose to define yourself. Please do join us. We think you'll like it and we'd love to see you.

How the evening goes:

7.00 - supper clubbers arrive and dinner is served in the Art Room
