Christmas is upon us, the lights are on in the town and from Thursday, December 3, Lewes is open for business again. I usually try and spend a day doing most of my Christmas shopping in the town and it is a hugely enjoyable experience: full of happy surprises and smiling faces. This year I pledge to spend all my money locally, in Lewes pounds where possible, and urge everyone who cares about our town to do the same.

I am also backing the Shop Independent initiative and together with the Mayoress and Deputy Mayor will be handing out cards and bags in Cliffe High Street, The Precinct and The High Street when we reopen. Christmas may be different this year, but the community spirit of the festive season is needed now more than ever.
